What happens after being shortlisted for a job role on Turing?

Last updated: November 2, 2026

Being shortlisted means you have successfully passed the initial application phase and your profile has been selected for further consideration. It puts you one step closer to the role, but does not constitute a job offer. This article explains what to expect next and how to navigate the process.

Understanding Your Application Status

You can monitor your application status at any time by visiting your Turing Dashboard and navigating to the Submissions tab.

  • Shortlisted: You are still under consideration but have not been fully selected yet. Even if you have already confirmed your rate, availability, and other terms, the dashboard status will only update to reflect final selection after the process is complete.

  • Selected: No immediate action is required from your side. The review team will reach out directly with next steps, but this may not happen immediately after your assessment is completed.

  • In Review → Archived: If you are not selected, your status will update from "In Review" and the application will appear in the Archived Applications section under the Jobs page.

Typical Next Steps After Shortlisting

  1. Complete any pending steps in your dashboard. Check your Applications page for any required assessments. These are mandatory and may vary by role. If your status shows "Shortlisted" and you have no new tasks assigned, no action is needed — it simply means the next step hasn't been released to you yet.

  2. Wait for outreach from the Turing team. If a live interview or role confirmation is required, the team will proactively contact you via email or WhatsApp. You do not need to take any action while waiting. When contacted, you will typically be asked to confirm the following within a specified timeframe (e.g., 12 hours):

    • Hourly rate

    • Availability and start date

    • Weekly time commitment

    • Timezone overlap requirements

    • Work eligibility / contractor status

When you receive such an email, reply directly to that email with your availability and confirmation that you accept the outlined terms. Once submitted, the team will confirm your candidacy and send onboarding instructions.

  3. Allow time for review. After completing all steps, the review process can take anywhere from 48 hours to 6 weeks, depending on the role, client, and application volume. A few days without an update is completely normal. Note that the expected project start date shown in a job posting does not confirm whether the project has begun or indicate the outcome of your individual application.

  4. Understand the selection outcome. Only candidates moving forward are contacted — not all candidates will receive a notification if they are not selected. If you don't hear back within 6 weeks of completing your application, this typically indicates you were not selected for that position. The final hiring decision is made by the client. Individualized feedback on why an application was not selected is not provided.

Onboarding After Selection

Onboarding begins only after a client selects you from the shortlist. You will receive an email with steps to complete, sent via Turing or Deel, which typically includes:

  • Terms of Service acceptance

  • ID verification

  • Tax and payment information setup

  • Agreement signing

These steps must be completed before your start date. Access credentials are sent within 24 hours before you begin. After confirming your alignment on terms, the onboarding team typically reaches out with a formal offer within a few business days. If you have not received an onboarding email within a week of confirming your terms, you may follow up to check on the status.

Tip: If you are expecting an onboarding email but haven't received it, check your Spam, Promotions, and Social folders. Look specifically for messages from onboarding@turing.com, as well as other addresses from turing.com and turing.org.

If You're Not Receiving Expected Communications

Notifications are only sent when you are advanced to the next step — not immediately upon shortlisting. If you believe you should have received communications, verify the following:

  1. The email address linked to your Turing account is correct.

  2. Check your Spam, Promotions, and Social folders for messages from turing.com and turing.org, including onboarding@turing.com.

  3. Your in-app notification and email preferences are enabled.

  4. You haven't recently changed your email or added filters/forwarding rules that may be blocking messages.

Common profile issues that can affect progression after shortlisting include:

  • Incomplete required steps in your profile or assessments

  • Outdated or inconsistent resume, skills, or availability information

  • Missing work history details, portfolio links, or verified contact info

  • Resume or skills not aligned to the applied role

  • Email filters or disabled notifications preventing updates from reaching you

Receiving a New Job Opportunity Email While Already Shortlisted

If you receive an email about a new job opportunity while you already have a shortlisted application, note the following:

  • The email will contain a button such as "Review Job Description and Submit Job Interest" for the new role.

  • This is separate from your existing shortlisted application — your previous application status remains unchanged.

  • Click the button to view the job title and details on the Turing site, then submit your interest if you wish to apply.

  • If the new opportunity requires additional assessments, they will be assigned after you submit interest.

If a job opportunity link redirects you to an assessment page you've already completed, try the following:

  1. Open the link in an incognito/private browser window.

  2. Log out and back into your Turing account, then click the link from the email again.

  3. Clear your browser cache and retry.

If your dashboard shows "Shortlisted" and the link simply redirects to your Turing dashboard with no new tests, you do not need to retake anything.

Other Important Notes

  • Editing your application: After submitting a job application form, it is not possible to edit any information, including your quoted hourly rate. Your submitted details are automatically shared with clients during the review process. If you are selected, you will be invited for a rate negotiation call where adjustments can be discussed.

  • Opting out: You currently cannot opt out of an application before an offer is extended. If you do not wish to proceed, you may reject the offer when it is made. Note that once you opt out of a job opportunity, it is not possible to re-apply for that same opportunity.

  • Role type and contract terms: Whether a role is a regular position or a short-term contract depends on the specific client and project. These details are shared when you are advanced to the next step.

  • Not selected for this role? This does not mean you are out of consideration entirely. New openings are available at work.turing.com/jobs, and you will be notified via email or WhatsApp when new recommendations or interview opportunities become available.

While You Wait

While waiting to hear back, keep your profile updated. Turing's Matching team and AI engine continuously work to discover new opportunities aligned with your skills, and an up-to-date profile improves your chances for future matches. If your availability or contact details change, update your application and notify the support team. Also, be ready to promptly complete any forms or NDAs that may be sent to you, as timely responses can be important to moving forward.
